Retail Meat New Zealand is a membership based organisation that represents and promotes the interests and views of businesses involved in the retail meat industry, including independent butchers, supermarkets, small-goods manufacturers, wholesalers and affiliated businesses. Our members sell approximately 85 percent of all meat products sold on the New Zealand retail meat market. We provide meat retailers and processors with access to an excellent range of services across all aspects of the industry, including an important network to share ideas and create business opportunities. We have also developed a range of membership benefits designed to help maximise your business.

Alto Butcher & ANZCO Foods Butcher Apprentice of the Year
The search for New Zealand’s best butcher and butcher apprentice has wrapped up for another year with Greg Egerton from Countdown Dunedin Central winning the prestigious Alto Butcher of the Year title and Cherise Redden from Countdown Meat & Seafood being crowned ANZCO Foods Butcher Apprentice at the Grand Final which took place at Shed 10 in Auckland.
Beers and Ideas
Beers & Ideas are laidback evenings of conversation, beers and nibbles. These regional social events aim to bring our community of members together and we will be partnering with sponsors and people of interest to make these engaging for those attending. The first event is taking place in Auckland on the 29th of August.
Devro Great New Zealand Sausage Competition
Over 500 sausages from more than 90 small-goods producers from across the country are judged by a panel of experts in order to crown New Zealand’s best sausage.

The World Butchers' Challenge is a butchery competition of epic proportions. With butchers from 16 countries across the globe battling it out for the title of the world's best, it's often referred to as the 'Olympics of Meat'.

Comedian and radio broadcaster Leigh Hart turned his hand to butchery in a feeble attempt to make the Kiwi butchery team, the Sharp Blacks who have now partnered with Hellers as they prepare for the World Butchers’ Challenge – the Olympics of butchery – due to take place next October in Sacramento, California.
Butchers from across the lower South Island sharpened their knives and cut their way through a two-hour competition in the regional stages of the 2019 Alto Butcher and ANZCO Foods Butcher Apprentice of the Year.
It was a close call, but after a fierce competition Greg Egerton from Countdown Dunedin Central placed first in the Alto Butcher of the Year category and Tom Frood from New World Gardens, Dunedin claimed first spot in the ANZCO Foods Butcher Apprentice of the Year category.
It was an all-women showdown at the Upper South Island regionals after a close competition Samantha Weller from New World Rangiora placed first in the Alto Butcher of the Year category and Maria De Lourdes Pio from PAK’nSave Rangiora claimed first spot in the ANZCO Foods Butcher Apprentice of the Year category.
Butchers from across the country have proved their skills with a sharp start to this year’s Alto Butcher and ANZCO Foods Butcher Apprentice of the Year competition.
Simon Dixon from Island Bay Butchery and Makalah Stevens from New World Foxton carved up the competition at the lower North Island regional finals of the 2019 Alto Butcher and ANZCO Foods Butcher Apprentice of the Year.
