It’s time to measure up!
The RMNZ annual fishing competition gives our members a chance to relax, get out on the water, and enjoy a weekend of fun and competitive fishing! The competition is held over two days in Auckland.
There are several fishing categories including Snapper, Kahawhai, Gurnard, Kingfish and John Dory and the competition is on for the biggest catch of the day.

General competition information
Entries are now open and will close on Friday 25th October. Entry fee is $50 which includes a light snack and one complimentary beverage is included with your entry fee.
No vessels entered in the competition may depart prior to 6:30am on Friday 1st November and must arrive back at Westhaven no later than 3.30pm on Saturday 2nd November.
Weigh-in: Weigh station will be open from 3.30 - 5pm on Saturday 2nd November.
The Prize giving will start at 5.30pm at Buoy Cafe, Westhaven.
Angler fees must be paid prior to commencement of the competition or your fish will not be eligible for weigh-in.
Where to fish
Anywhere you like! From a kayak, a dinghy, a state of the art launch - or the jetty down the road. Z Pier at Westhaven also has some great charter boats that will take you out. Please ensure you allow enough time to book a charter boat if required as at this time of the year they are sure to be busy.
Bad Weather Plans
We will hold the event in most weather conditions, but if weather conditions make the competition unsafe to run, the competition will be cancelled.
Cancellations will be emailed to entrants and announced via social media and the RMNZ website. No refunds will be offered.General Stuff
Fishing starts 6:30am Friday 1st November 2019 and finishes 3.30pm Saturday 2nd November 2019.
Fishing will be with rods and reels only. Kontikis, kites, nets, spear guns and long lines are not permitted.
Cheating results in instant disqualification and those caught will be banned from any future competitions organised by the competition organiser.
Contestants must be prepared to be interviewed regarding their catch.
Any images taken of those participating in the event may be used to promote the event in the future.
To ensure they only take the vessel out in conditions that are appropriate to both the type of vessel and your own skill level.
The measurement station will be located on the edge of the Z Pier building.
Open from 3.30 - 5pm Saturday 2nd November 2019. Contestants must be in queue with their fish at closing time to qualify for fish weigh in or it will render the fish ineligible for the competition.
Fish must be weighed in green, not gutted.
Fish inspections will be carried out at every weigh in. Only legal healthy fish will be accepted and the organisers reserve the right to reject any fish presented.
The competition organiser's decision is final and binding on all contestants.
Please respect the (at times) stressful job of measures and their assistants, and be patient and courteous. Make sure you are aware of weigh-in closing times. Those not in the queue at those times will miss out on weighing their fish
Buoy Cafe is the official hospitality provider for this competition. BYO into the prize giving is not permitted.
The organisers reserve the right to change or amend the competition at any stage, subject to advice from its legal or technical advisers, recommendation from the Maritime authorities or in the interests of public safety.
Neither the competition organiser, nor any director, official, contractor or employee of the competition organiser shall have liability in connection with the competition for any damage caused to any vehicle, boat or other property, or loss or property or personal injury or damage of whatever nature or kind howsoever caused.
