Retail Meat New Zealand run and organise a number of high profile events on behalf of the New Zealand meat industry.
National Sausage Day, is the day to celebrate the Kiwi summer icon, the sausage.
The Alto Butcher of the Year is an individual competition that has been running in various forms for three decades and has always been a prestigious event well regarded by the retail meat trade. The event is open to qualified butchers of any age and stage and the title is highly sought after by competitors.
The ANZCO Foods Butcher Apprentice of the Year Competition is run in conjunction with the Alto Butcher of the Year Competition. The event is an individual event open to anyone currently enrolled in a butchery apprenticeship and we encourage first, second and third year apprentices to put themselves forward and give it their best shot.
The Retail Meat New Zealand Butchers’ Summit is an annual industry conference held in a different location each year. Over two days, the summit provides attendees with the opportunity to network, learn and be inspired by a line-up of inspiring content and top notch speakers.
The Devro Great New Zealand Sausage Competition has been seeking out New Zealand's tastiest snarlers since 1996. Today, there are 13 categories in the competition, ranging from traditional to gourmet. We see in excess of 480 different sausages from over 90 stores enter the competition, as sausage makers from across the country perfect their recipes in the hopes of being announced the 2019 Supreme Winner.
The Canterbury Butchers’ Golf Tournament is held yearly in February. The event has been running for many years and is a bit of an institution in the wider Christchurch area. The day is the perfect chance to take a break from work and enjoy some quality networking and of course, some golf.
Held annually in Auckland in early November, the Retail Meat Fishing Competition is a great chance to network while enjoying a spot of fishing. The event includes a weekends worth of fishing and the line up of prizes is always impressive. Categories for judging include Snapper, Kahawhai, Gurnard, Kingfish and John Dory.
The Christie is a lifetime achievement award, in honour of Geof Christie, a butcher and tutor of trainee butchers in Polytecnics, whose passion for his trade was tireless. The Award is presented annually to a member of the meat industry who has contributed to the promotion, growth and strength of the New Zealand meat industry.
The Sharp Blacks are our national butchery side who compete every two years at the World Butchers’ Challenge and various other international butchery competitions. The seven member team represents the best butchers from around the country.
The World Butchers' Challenge is an international butchery competition of epic proportions. With butchers from across the globe battling it out for the title of the world's best, it's often referred to as the 'Olympics of Meat'.
The ANZCO Young Butchers of New Zealand is a team of young butchers and butcher apprentices who represent New Zealand at the World Champion Young Butcher and World Champion Butcher Apprentice competitions, held as part of the World Butchers’ Challenge.
National Sausage Day, is the day to celebrate the Kiwi summer icon, the sausage. New Zealand sausage makers hope this day to be a celebration - where Kiwis dust off their barbecues and bring in the summer with the sausage.
