WEDDERBURN SHARP BLACKS
The Wedderburn Sharp Blacks is a team of the top five butchers in New Zealand.
The team compete annually in international test matches. The second annual Trans Tasman Test Match was held in Melbourne in March 2012 and the Wedderburn Sharp Blacks were narrowly beaten by the Australians.
It came down to just two points in the end, with many thinking it was too close to call.
In 2013 the Wedderburn Sharp Blacks took on the Aussies, and the Brits in the inaugural Butchery Tri-Nations Challenge. The test match was held at the Upper Clutha A&P show in Wanaka. It was a well fought battle but in the end the Sharp Blacks came out on top and took the title.
The 2014 Tri-Nations will see the team heading over to the UK to compete. Current members of the Sharp Blacks will take on a team of 6 "possibles" with the 2014 team being announced at the Young Butcher of the Year dinner on 16th August.
